A non-profit Parent Cooperative Preschool
Start Here! Preschool is a unique early childhood program. We believe learning begins with play, exploration, and community. As a non-profit parent cooperative, we foster a warm, hands-on environment where children develop essential motor, social, and cognitive skills through developmentally appropriate, play-based learning. With strong parent involvement, we create a supportive space where curiosity thrives, friendships grow, and a lifelong love of learning begins.
Our structure
Redmond’s oldest Parent-Cooperative preschool, established in 1973, Start Here! Preschool has only two paid staff-members: the Lead Teacher and their assistant.
The school operates through the daily efforts of parents. It is parents who keep the child to adult ratio low by volunteering in class on a rotating basis. Parents also oversee the day-to-day operation of the school through filling positions on the school's non-profit board of directors.
As a result of this level of participation, parents have a familiarity with all aspects of their children's preschool experience that simply isn't possible through any other program structure.
